Let's start
with a simple golden rule. Never, ever, ever pay to make PC to PC calls via the
net regardless of wherever in the world you're calling from and to.
The hardware
needed
Any PC made
within the last five years with an internet connection should easily cope. A
microphone and headset/speakers are needed, though it's possible to buy phone
handsets for computers. A broadband internet connection is best for quality,
but it's still just workable in dial up also
The quality
is often better than that of a phone call, as the sound produced is over a
wider frequency range. Though if your internet connection is struggling, this
will of course effect it. As it's free try it, and see how it works. Those with
web cams may also video chat for free this way. Yet often using the video
option diminishes the audio quality, so it's best left for occasional fun not
regular phoning.
Google Talk
Download the 1.5MB application. It will take
a few seconds over a broadband connection or about three minutes over a typical
modem. Google Talk requires Windows Vista/XP/2000 with a minimum 56k connection
speed (broadband is recommended).
1. Sign in
with your Gmail or Google Account username and password. If you don't have a
Google Account.make your gmail acc first.
2. If you're
signing into Google Talk with a Gmail account, your Gmail contacts are
pre-loaded into Google Talk. Your most frequently-emailed contacts are at the
top of your Friends list.
3. If some
people from your Friends list already have Google Talk, they will have an icon
that looks like a colored ball next to their name, and you can call or IM them
immediately.
4. If
another Google Talk user wants to add you to their Friends list, you will see
an alert at the top of your screen.
Once you
sign in, Google Talk automatically displays the people you communicate with
most often, sorted by availability status and then alphabetically.
How do I
make a call?
To call a
friend, click on the Call button from an open chat window. You can also
make a call by clicking on the icon next to a name directly from your Friends
list.
You can have
multiple calls underway at once–but only one can be active at a time. The other
calls must be on hold.
To talk with
your friends, you must have a computer microphone and speakers. Many PC laptops
today have these built-in. Google Talk also works with USB phones and wired and
wireless headsets. We recommend using a headset for the best voice quality.

list and click the Call button to get started. You and thefriend you call both

Here’s How
You can initiate a PC-to-PC call
in several ways:
1. Begin typing the person’s
name in the Contact Search Bar.. Select Call Computer from the pull-down list.
Tip:If the person you want to
call isn’t in your list, type the person’s Yahoo! ID, then select Call
Computerfrom the pull-down list.
2. Click the Phone icon on a
friend’s contact card and select Call computer from the displayed menu.
3. Your contact can accept or
decline the call or accept instant messaging only.
Freebuzzer
Another Internet phone thatcan be used to make free phone
calls is Freebuzzer.
Freebuzzer works a lot likeGoogle Voice in that it connects
your phone with the phone number you dial. Your free call is limited to a very
short two minutes andyou can only make three free calls per day.
The good news is that free phone calls with Freebuzzercan be
made to over 40 countries. Since most Internet phones restrict free calls to
the US and Canada, Freebuzzer might be your only bet for free calls to certain
countries.

EvaPhone is yet another way to make free Internet phone
calls. EvaPhone lets you make free, but incredibly short, PC to phone calls all
from a Flash-based interface right on their website.

how incredibly short that free call is. Free calls range fromten seconds to one
minute in length, depending on the destination. You're also also limited to

Tuitalk is another Internet phone that works much like
EvaPhone. With Tuitalk, however, you have to download their free Internetphone
software.
Tuitalk lets allows you to make free phone calls to around
40 countries. Each country in which you make your free phone call is limited to
a certain number of minutes per call and per day. For most countries, your free
Internet phone call can be six minutes in length.
Before your free call with Tuitalk is connected, you have to
watch several seconds of a high-quality video advertisement.
